Common Causes of Computer Automatic or Unexpected Shutdown and their Solutions
1. VIRUS and/or MALWARE
Your computer is infected with viruses and/or malwares. They may instruct the computer to shutdown whenever how they are coded.
SOLUTION:
Full Scan computer with your Anti-virus and with MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. Be sure to update them first to get the latest virus/malware database. Then delete detected threats.
2. CPU OVERHEATING
To prevent hardware damages, the computer shutdown itself if the CPU is overheating.
Check CPU temperature by downloading HWID Monitor or CoreTemp. Take note of temperatures in these following situations:
A.Idle(doing nothing, no open softwares, just desktop)
B.Mild Computing(browsers, video/music players, paint, microsoft office)
C.Heavy(Low-Mid Gaming, Low-Mid Video/Picture Editing)
D.Extreme(High-Extreme Gaming, High-Extreme Video/Picture Editing, 3D Renderer/Sofwares)
SOLUTION:
Add more fans, exhaust + intake, search google for good airflow setup.
A.Clean the heatsink and fan. RE-Apply thermal paste.
B.Replace heatsink and fan by purchasing after market coolers and thermal place
C.Convert from heatsink and fan to liquid cooling.
D.Replace chassis to a branded one with good airflow
3. DUST
Dust inside a computer’s component may affect its performance
SOLUTION:
Clean the inside of your chassis with air duster. Search Google and YouTube for more detailed instructions
4. Operating System Files
It is either you are missing some OS Files or they were overwritten due to user or a virus/malware
SOLUTION:
RE-Install you Operating System. *NOTE: Be sure to backup important data
5. HARDWARE
Wires and Cables in your hardware may have been loosened and/or it is defective.
SOLUTION:
Check cables and wire connection.
Re-seat Memory, PCI-E, PCI cards
Consult a PC Technician for hardware malfunction
6. POWERSUPPLY
You may have a faulty power supply
SOLUTION:
Check over all computer wattage and PSU supported wattage. Check connection from power supply to component and from outlet to power supply. Convert to a True Rated PSU or a branded one Consult a PC Technician
7. RAM
Your computer memory is malfunctioning or going to malfunction.
SOLUTION:
Search Google and/or YouTube on how to troubleshoot RAM.
Consult a PC Technician
8. MOTHERBOARD
Motherboard components are malfunction. Bad capacitors or leaking capacitors are present.
SOLUTION:
Check motherboard if capacitors are leaking and/or not in good shape. If yes, consider replacing your motherboard. Consult a PC Technician
